How long do I need to commit to counselling?
Psychotherapy is a long-term process and experience in the deepening and becoming of who we truly are. There are times when clients feel that they either wish to look at one particular issue or they want support going through a crisis. In these cases I can offer short-term psychotherapy where I would recommend a minimum of 6 consecutive sessions. Other clients might want to work on a long-term, open-ended base where we would review after 6 sessions and arrange regular reviews thereafter, depending on the individual.
How often and long are the sessions?
To gain the greatest benefit from the counselling we would meet each week for a 50 minute session. I recommend that we have a minimum of 6 sessions and then review the work together.
Are the sessions confidential?
During the initial consultation I will ask you to fill out a simple form, which we will both sign and keep a copy of. When working online I will ask you to fill this out prior to our first session. Any personal information I keep on client is stored securely.
All material which clients share with me within a session is kept confidential (although there are some legal and professional limits to confidentiality that I can explain further on our first meeting).
In accordance with the BACP guidelines I do meet regularly with a trained supervisor to discuss my work. However, when writing notes or discussing my work within the supervision session, I will only use client’s first names and my notes are strictly for my own reference.
